Team Work Cooperative – The Opportunities Fund

The Opportunities Fund is a resource provided by Service Canada to assist persons with disabilities in gaining and maintaining employment. To be eligible for the fund you must be unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week. You can’t have drawn Employment Insurance in the last three years, must be legally entitled to work in Canada and not currently eligible for Employment Insurance benefits. The Opportunities Fund may provide the following assistance:

  • Wage Subsidies – Wage Subsidies provide financial assistance to businesses who wish to hire skilled persons with disabilities
  • Skills Enhancements – Persons with disabilities funded under a Wage Subsidy may be eligible for short-term training. The training must be less than six months.
  • Accommodations – Persons with disabilities funded under a Wage Subsidy may be eligible for some disability related accommodation.
  • Self-Employment – Self-employment is designed to assist persons with disabilities to create jobs by starting a business. The Opportunities Fund can also assist with payment for some technical and consultative expertise.
