The Nova Scotia Crop and Livestock Insurance Commission fosters private sector economic growth through its crop and livestock based AgriInsurance programs encouraging employment and economic growth in Nova Scotia rural communities. Also known as Production Insurance or Crop Insurance, AgriInsurance adds a degree of predictability to farm businesses by protecting against the effects of yield reductions and crop or livestock losses caused by naturally occurring perils. The Commission offers 16 crop insurance plans, as well as dairy and poultry plans, that help farmers manage risk on their farms by maintaining cash flows during poor crop years. The Commission also administers a Wildlife Compensation Program under the AgriInsurance platform.

Applied Research and Development Grants support well-defined applied research and development projects undertaken by college researchers with their private-sector partners. Direct project costs are shared by the company partner(s) and the CCI Program. Projects may range from one year to three years in duration. Grants range from up to $75,000 per year to $150,000 per year.

Alliance grants encourage university researchers to collaborate with partner organizations, which can be from the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. These grants support research projects led by strong, complementary, collaborative teams that will generate new knowledge and accelerate the application of research results to create benefits for Canada.
