NSCC Applied Research develops practical and innovative solutions for industry’s real-world problems. With an expert research team and network of faculty and students from some of our most challenging and cutting-edge programs, we help industry improve their products, enhance processes, and grow their businesses. NSCC has well-equipped facilities which provide us with the tools to contribute to the development of new technologies that we can transfer to our partners. NSERC- Applied Research and Development Grants

Applied Research and Development Grants support well-defined applied research and development projects undertaken by college researchers with their private-sector partners. Direct project costs are shared by the company partner(s) and the CCI Program. Projects may range from one year to three years in duration. Grants range from up to $75,000 per year to $150,000 per year.

Perennia – Small Farm Outreach Program

Nova Scotia has one of the highest numbers of small farms and new farm entrants in Canada. To connect these organic and conventional producers with the resources they need, and to answer basic production questions, Perennia offers information and workshops to address issues they may be challenged with. This program is aimed at those producers who grow crops or raise livestock on a scale where they just reach the threshold of being a registered farm ($10,000 in gross sales) but are seeking information to grow their farm business slowly since they may not have anyone working the farm full-time, or just starting their farm operation.

Perennia Product Development/Innovation Centre

The Perennia Innovation Centre is food and food-based product development, improvement and small pilot processing facility in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia. The Centre is a 25,000 sq. ft. green facility following Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles. It has a provincially-inspected pilot plant, and food product development laboratory and analytical and microbiological labs and start up lease space for business incubation. Perennia food scientists and research associates work with established and new agrifood, beverage and seafood businesses to create new products, or improve current products or processes.

Perennia Training Services

Perennia’s team develops and delivers workshops, field days, tours, short courses, training sessions and conferences, often in partnership with industry or government. Perennia has a number of workshops and training topics that can be customized or delivered by our specialists and associates to your group, agency or company.

Rights Management Program

SOCAN administers and protects the performing and reproduction rights of more than 150,000 songwriters, music publishers, composers, and visual artists. We offer an integrated approach to rights management and compelling solutions for our rights holders’ reproduction and performing rights. Through reciprocal agreements with more than 100 copyright collectives in 214 countries, we collect and distribute royalties internationally for the use of copyrighted works, connecting millions of creators worldwide. SOCANs Rights Management includes Performing Rights and Reproduction Rights.

Screen Nova Scotia

Screen Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit membership organization representing over 2,000 people working in film, television and animation across the province. Membership includes producers, service providers, local cast and crew, unions and guilds, and industry organizations.  Screen Nova Scotia works with and advocates on behalf of the screen-based industry in Nova Scotia to build long-term economic and cultural sustainability of the sector, and to create opportunities for the film, television, and digital media content creators based in the province. Services provided for include business development training, attendance at conferences and trade missions, research and information on funding programs provided by various partners.

SENNS-Research

The Social Enterprise Network of Nova Scotia (SENNS) is a non-profit member led society working on behalf of all of Nova Scotia’s Social Enterprise sector that contributes to the social, cultural, environmental and economic well-being of Nova Scotia. Two reports recently completed by SENNS to assist social enterprise companies are the Social Enterprise Strategy  and the Mapping the Social Shift report that documents the social enterprise network in Nova Scotia

The Centre for Ocean Ventures & Entrepreneurship (COVE)

COVE is a collaborative facility for applied innovation in the ocean sector and its mission is to propel the ocean economy by providing high quality marine infrastructure and a collaborative space in which a community of ocean enterprises can start, grow and prosper. Their primary goal is to support ocean technology commercialization. This hub is home to local and global ocean technology businesses, post-secondary institutions, researchers, and marine-based and service businesses that support the ocean sector. The COVE site features extensive marine facilities with two large, deep-water piers, office space, an incubator and space for shops and labs. Members have access to shared equipment and infrastructure, and the resources of the management team to nurture partnerships in forming technology leadership projects. As well, with initiatives and a site designed to encourage formal and informal networking, COVE members can connect with the people, companies, and opportunities essential to grow their business.
