Clean Tech Internships

Employers can hire an intern for 6-12 months in a full-time position related to the use or development of clean tech, and CICan will contribute up to 70% of the intern’s salary, to a maximum of $15,000. Eligible employers must have an established payroll system, a process for supervising and mentoring interns, and be a Canadian company or subsidiary in one of the following categories:   Post-secondary education institution Indigenous organization or association Small- or medium-sized enterprise (SME), less than 500 employees Large corporation, more than 500 employee Non-government organization (NGO) Not-for-profit organization Municipal or local government Provincial or territorial government, institution, agency or Crown corporation

Continuing Education Program

As the owner of a licensed childcare facility or day care centre, you could get $13 an hour towards the salary of a substitute so that you or your employees can take approved courses in Early Childhood. You need to ensure that the employees have worked for you for a minimum of 6 months. Since the program also reimburses your employees for course costs, this can be a practical way for everyone at your facility to benefit from skills upgrades.

Department of Energy – Energy Training Program

The Energy Training Program helps postsecondary students and recent graduates get work experience in the energy sector with a hiring incentive for local businesses. Employers receive up to 50% (up to $7.50 an hour) of the student or graduate’s wages for a 12 to 17-week work term. This program is available to businesses with up to 500 employees operating in Nova Scotia. Businesses must have a direct connection to the energy sector. Employers must provide work experience that’s directly related to the student’s field of study. Work term positions must pay at least the legal minimum wage, plus 4% vacation pay. Larger local companies may be considered for the program if funding levels allow.

ECO Canada – Environmental Youth Corps Internship Program

If your business is in the science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields, you may be eligible to hire a young professional for a full-time environmental position. As the leading provider of employment programs that contribute to the development of the environmental workforce for the past 20 years, we are the source for employers and candidates to receive wage funding support. Our program gives eligible employers who work in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) or Natural Resources up to 50% of a candidate’s salary for new full-time environmental jobs. Employers may use this program to fund multiple new positions. Funding will be pro-rated dependent upon start date. The program offers:   A wage subsidy up to $15,000 Pre-approved, skilled graduates

Employment and Social Development Canada – Apprentice’s Loss of Wages Program

Employers may top up an apprentice’s loss of wages while the apprentice is attending technical training, and this allowance is not considered as earnings to be deducted from EI benefits.

Employment and Social Development Canada – Canada Summer Jobs Fund

Do you plan to hire students to help out at your small business next summer? This wage subsidy could help you pay up to 50% of the salary to an eligible full-time student. To qualify:   Students must be between 15 and 30 years old You should have no more than 50 full-time employees You need to meet the priorities set by your region   The value of the subsidy is based on the minimum wage in your region. Not-for-profit organizations are eligible for 100% of the student’s salary.

Employment and Social Development Canada – Career Focus

You could get financial assistance if you can offer career-related work experience to young people between the ages of 15 and 30. To qualify, your business or non-profit organization needs to:   Hire 8 or more recruits (exceptions for rural or remote regions) Offer between 6 and 12 months of work that improves the skills of recruits Provide coaching or mentoring Base the project in Canada   Priority is given to work experience in growth sectors.

Employment and Social Development Canada – Compensation for Employers of Reservists Program

Get a one-time grant for operational losses when a reservist employee takes time away from work to serve on military operations. Eligibility criteria includes:   Be a Canadian employer of a reservist Reservist must be deployed for a minimum of 30 days to a maximum of 18 months Provide documentation that reservist worked for you prior to their leave of absence Application must be received no later than 12 months following reservist’s return

You could get up to $25,000 per participant to hire and train youth between the ages of 15 and 30 who face barriers to employment. Employment and Social Development Canada – Student Work-Integrated Learning Program

If your business is having difficulty finding qualified workers in the field of science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) and business, you can apply for a wage subsidy to hire a post-secondary student. Subsidies cover:   Up to 50% of the wage cost (up to $5,000) per student Up to 70% of the wage cost (up to $7,000) per placement of a student from an under-represented group (first-year students, women in STEM, Indigenous students, persons with disabilities and newcomers)   You can apply to one of many participating employer groups.
